Welcome to Encountering Prayer, a home for those who desire more. Through spiritual direction, faith seekers are invited to develop their prayer life that truly leads to encountering God with their heart, mind, body and soul.
Monique van Berkel is a certified Spiritual Director through the Heart of Christ and Avila Institutes’ collaborative formation program.
With a maternal sensitivity, she walks with directees to explore the desires of their heart and encourages them to enter a deeper relationship with Christ. In a safe and compassionate setting, directees are invited to open themselves up to the grace of God, trusting always in His divine merciful love.
Monique is a graduate of the Theology of the Body Institute Certification program. She draws on her theology studies, spiritual direction formation, and life experiences to guide directees to lead an integrated holistic approach in their spiritual journey toward God.
Monique is a joy-filled wife, mother and grandmother.

The true Spiritual Director of our soul is always God, in and through the Holy Spirit. Accompaniment in the interior life is a gift from God. Spiritual direction is an ancient practice where one accompanies another in their interior life.
Jesus shared truth, beauty, and God’s love through stories. Capturing the movements of the heart in written word can inspire others in their own journey. My humble writings are presented with the hope that they will speak to your heart.
